What Does Lung-RADS Mean?
Lung-RADS v2022 is the scoring system Lung Cancer Screening Programs standardize what to do with each person’s screening CT chest scan. The Lung-RADS scoring system goes 0 to 4B based on 1) if a nodule was found, 2) comparison of the nodule to previous imaging and 3) nodule characteristics. Recommendations for the next step for each person is based on the Lung-RADS score.
If a person has no or small nodules, Lung-RADS 1 or 2, then they often repeat the screening Chest CT in one year
If the nodule is concerning, Lung-RADS 4B, then evaluation of the nodule is expedited due to increased concern for lung cancer. NOTE: Lung-RADS 4B does not necessarily mean lung cancer, but the risk of cancer is over 15%.
