What’s with the kilt?

Lung cancer kills more people than any other cancer. That makes the phrase “lung cancer kills” both accurate and something we desperately need to change.

So we changed “Lung Cancer KilLS” to “Lung Cancer kilTS” and added “Research Cures,” because the best way to change the leading cause of cancer death is to find the next cure.

Also, when a man wears a kilt, he draws a lot of attention and is frequently asked, “What’s with the kilt?” That gives me an opportunity to talk about lung cancer. Sometimes that means talking about quitting smoking or lung cancer screening. Other times it means helping someone understand an abnormal scan, a new diagnosis, or what comes next.

The kilt starts the conversation. Lung cancer is why I keep going.
